Two Ford Models Named Best Green Cars of 2013

Ford Focus ElectricJust in time for Earth Day, Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com has named the 10 Best Green Cars of 2013.  With fuel economy taking the top consideration spot for many car buyers, eco-friendly cars face fierce competition. However strong the competition may be, Ford still fared better than most, with two Ford models earning a spot on this list.

The first Ford on the list is the all-new 2013 Ford C-Max Energi.  The C-Max Energi is the most affordable plug-in hybrid on the road and offers an all-electric range of 21 miles.  The hatchback returnes an EPA-estimate fuel economy of 108 MPGe City and 92 MPGe highway and was praised by KBB.com for being one of the few EVs that can be fun to drive.

The 2013 Ford Focus Electric also earned a spot on Kelley Blue Book’s list, thanks to an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 110 MPGe city/99 MPGe highway/105 MPGe combined and its 76 mile range.  The Focus Electric has a leg up on the competition, thanks to its combination of award-winning Ford Focus style with an electric motor.

2013 Ford C-MAX Energi Achieves 620-Mile Range

EPA figures were recently released for the 2013 Ford C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid, and the numbers shattered what even Ford had estimated the C-MAX would return.

The 2013 C-MAX Energi has an EPA-rated 620-mile overall range and a 21-mile electric range.  The 620-mile overall range is an impressive 70 miles greater than what Ford had estimate the hybrid compact SUV would deliver.

“C-MAX Energi is America’s most efficient utility vehicle, a great symbol of how Ford gives customers the power to choose leading fuel-efficiency across our lineup with gas prices spiraling upwards of $5 a gallon in some parts of the country,” said C-MAX chief engineer,  John Davis. “The C-MAX Energi’s leading range also means customers can spend more time on the road and more money on their priorities instead of at the gas pump.”

The 2013 C-MAX Hybrid Plug-in is powered by a 7.6-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that returns 108 MPGs (miles per gallon equivalent).  Once the battery pack is depleted the 2.0-liter I-4 Atkinson engine with an electric motor kicks in and is able to return an impressive 47 mpg highway and 47 mpg highway while functioning as a hybrid.

2013 Ford Fusion is the Green Car of the Year

The 2013 Green Car of the Year did not win because it’s a hybrid or electric vehicle; it won because it’s both of these things. It’s also a traditional, gasoline-powered sedan. This powertrain variety was a major factor in the 2013 Ford Fusion’s nomination for the green car award.

Other nominees included the Ford C-Max and Toyota Prius C, but the Fusion pulled away with the win thanks to its eco-friendly options that do not take away from the joy of driving.  The hybrid model returns 47 MPG city/highway while the gas-powered sedan, available with an EcoBoost I-4 engine, receives 33 MPG highway.

The 2013 Fusion received its Green Car of the Year title at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The sedan is currently available here at Sanderson Ford in its Hybrid and EcoBoost trims.

Ford and Yahoo! are “Plugged In”

Following in the footsteps of the 2013 Ford Escape, the all-new Ford Focus Electric will be receiving its own reality show.  The series, “Plugged In,” will be a competition reality show shown on Yahoo! Screen.

The show will take place in 10 cities around the U.S.: Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Seattle, Austin, Atlanta, Raleigh, and Boston.  Contestants will drive a Focus Electric around their home towns to complete different tasks and challenges. Clues will be sent via video, text, and audio through the EV’s Sync with MyFord Touch system, and teams will also use the car’s navigation to help guide them.  The winning teams will be awarded a Focus Electric.

Casting is currently underway and the schedule will be announced in a few weeks.  Since the show will be broadcast online, viewers are encouraged to comment and upload their own hometown photos after each episode.

Ford Reveals 2013 Fusion and Makes Big Announcement in Detroit

Ford made a big splash at the North American International Auto Show this week with the official debut of the 2013 Ford Fusion. The automaker also announced plans for a plug-in hybrid Fusion Energi a few months after the Fusion arrives in showrooms.

2013 Ford Fusion

The 2013 Fusion joins many other sedans in offering a 4-cylinder engine only. Other updates to the sedan include new styling that resembles a four door coupe more than a standard sedan and a multitude of standard and optional features. These features include the latest version of SYNC with MyFord Touch, BLIS, SOS post-crash alert, and an optional lane-keeping aid.  A hybrid model of the Fusion will also be available, with a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine, based on the 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo.

2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid

While news of a redesigned Fusion has been floating around for months, the announcement of the Fusion Energi took everyone by surprise.  According to Ford, this PHEV will receive an EPA fuel mileage estimate over 100 MPGe. The Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid will go on sale about five months after the Fusion’s release in late summer or early fall of this year.
