Info on the HIGH FIVE TOUR-

On June 22, 2011 we will gallop across America in our 2011 Shelby Mustang GT-500 to thank Americans for their support of our military families and to raise funds and awareness for the mission of Wounded Warriors Family Support: Provide support to the families of those who have been wounded, injured or killed during combat operations.

Our 50 state capitol city drive/fly road trip is real street level engagement designed to meet as many Americans as possible and thank them for their support of our military families who have given so much. Remember:

“When America goes to war, our families go to war”

They need our help to cope with the psychological and spiritual stress on their relationships that can tear apart families.

It would be great to see you at our Phoenix road trip event this summer.

Doug and Wolfs Gear Up For Kids Drive at Sanderson Ford

Did you know participation in team sports has been in a steady decline in    America for decades?

It’s Doug & Wolf’s Gear up for Kids presented by Sanderson Ford,    benefitting the Boy’s and Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix! Throughout the  month of June–clean out the garage and bring your new or used sports equipment to the Sanderson Ford showroom on 51st Avenue in Glendale .

32% of youth in the United States are considered obese or overweight. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix provides more that 10 league sports like basketball, girl’s volleyball, soccer, flag football and futsol and more than 18,000 hours of sports and nutrition programming each year to help kids stay healthy and fit.

  • More than two thirds of Arizona teens do not meet the recommended levels for daily physical activity.
  • 60% of Arizona high school students do not attend physical education classes at school. At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix, targeted teen sports leagues for boys and girls and daily fitness programs are offered year-round.
  • Every 24 hours, 15,000 youth use drugs for the first time. At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix, children aged 6-18 receive some 32,800 hours of gang and drug resistance training every year.
  • Community impact in the vicinity of a Boys & Girls Club. Drug activity goes down by 22%, juvenile crime goes down by 13% and vandalism goes down by 12%
Kids who play sports are 57% less likely to drop out of school.  Athletes are 92% less likely to be involved in drugs than non-athletes, and girls who play sports are less likely to have an unwanted pregnancy.  Students who play sports are likely to get better grades and are more likely to graduate than those who do not play sports.
Due to budget cuts, children are being offered fewer athletic opportunities, participation fees are being increased, and players are expected to provide their own equipment and uniforms.  Bottom line is, sports can help keep kids out of trouble.
At Sanderson Ford, we are proud to present the 3rd annual “Doug & Wolf’s GEAR UP FOR KIDS” equipment drive.  Now through June 23rd, you can bring in new or gently used sporting goods to our showroom.  These will benefit The Boys and Grils Club of Metropolitan Phoenix.
Help us help our youth and hopefully we’ll all have a better tomorrow!

Ford Wins Freedom Award from DOD

Way to go Ford-

Ford is being honored with the 2011 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. The Freedom Award is the highest honor bestowed upon America’s employers who provide exceptional support to their employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve.

The Freedom Award recognizes employers for initiatives they put in place for Guard and Reserve employees and their families.  For example, Ford currently offers differential pay for its employees on active duty. In the U.S. there are approximately 700 Reservists and Guardsmen employed by the company along with more than 7,000 veterans.  Ford currently has nearly 30 employees actively serving in the military.

Ford has a longstanding commitment to its veterans and military personnel. Ford’s relationship with Disabled American Veterans (DAV) began in 1922 when Henry Ford organized a cross-country caravan of 50 Model T’s to take disabled veterans to their convention in San Francisco.  Since 1974, Ford and the Ford Fund have provided over $6 million to veterans organizations.

Since 1996, Ford has donated 156 vehicles to DAV for their Transportation Network, totaling approximately $4 million.  Each year Ford sponsors the DAV’s winter sports clinic, and has supported the DAV’s youth scholarship volunteer program since 2000.  In 2006 the Ford Fund made a $500,000 contribution toward the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial.  Ford also helps all veterans through vehicle donations, scholarships and special vehicle purchase programs.

The Ford Veterans Network Group (VETNG), one of Ford’s corporately supported Employee Resource Groups, sponsors activities throughout the year in support of its veterans, military personnel and their families.

“The VETNG is committed to serving and supporting all members of the U.S. Armed Forces,” said Dan Duderstadt, lead security supervisor, and president of the Veterans Network Group. “And we could not do it without the ongoing support of our senior leadership here at Ford.”

The Ford VETNG recently sponsored a Memorial Day Parade in Dearborn, Michigan. Other activities throughout the year include the annual Veterans Day Ceremony at Ford World Headquarters and sending care packages overseas to activated employees, as well as company employees with sons and daughters serving abroad.

The 2011 recipients will be honored in Washington, D.C. at the 16th annual Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award Ceremony in September.

Locally, you can help Ford and Sanderson Ford support active military members and their families serving in the war zones by supporting and donating to Operation Homefront AZ.
