2015 Glendale Glitter and Glow Block Party

The 2015 Glendale Glitter and Glow block party came to a close on January 10th. The annual party is a part of the Glendale Glitters holiday light display. In the end, over 1.5 million lights flew along more than 20 hot air balloons. Specially shaped balloons, including Gismo the Gargoyle, made an appearance at the block party.

The event covered 16 blocks of downtown Glendale, Arizona. Thousands came onto the streets to see the show and listen to live bands start 2015 out right. The Glitter and Glow block party included carnival rides, a petting zoo, and pony ring, among others. For a full list (and map) of what you missed, click here.

While the closing of Glendale Glitters went smoothly, rocking the night away, a whole new party is approaching. Glendale is hosting the 2015 Super Bowl which will be held at the University of Phoenix Stadium on February 1. It’s one event after another in Glendale and hopefully the Super Bowl goes as smoothly as the sendoff of Glendale Glitters.

Ford Employees Help Feed the Hungry on Accelerated Action Day

On December 12, the Ford Motor Company had what it calls an Accelerated Action Day. That day, more than 700 Ford employees volunteered to help feed the hungry by collecting food, stocking shelves, and serving meals.

“Helping to meet the most basic needs of our neighbors is the first step toward creating a better world,” said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services, in a statement. “Hunger affects one in six Americans. That’s 49 million people each year. We have a lot of reasons to be thankful and one of them is being able to share some of our good fortune with the less fortunate in our communities.”

Ford worked with multiple nonprofit groups across the country to create more than 50 projects in eight states for its employees to work on. These organizations also shared $91,000 in Ford Fund grants to buy the necessary equipment and food to complete the projects.

The projects included assembling holiday food packages at Advanced Technology Academy in Dearborn, Michigan; preparing and serving a holiday lunch to shelter residents at COTS in Detroit; sorting and packing food at Gleaners Community Food Bank in Detroit and many more.

If you’re looking to help feed the hungry this holiday season, there are numerous food banks and shelters in the Glendale, Arizona community that are always accepting donations and volunteers.
