New Ford Performance Heritage Video Hints at Something Big

Ford fans, get hyped. Our favorite automaker has just launched the first in a series of five videos titled Ford performance heritage, which covers some great images of racers over the years and a series of teaser images that you don’t want to miss.

One of those images points to November 17, 2014, the day of the Los Angeles Auto Show, with a font only the most hardcore fans will recognize: that of the leaked GT350 logo uncovered by Mustang6g.com back in August.

Could it be a new Shelby? The odds are very good. The video showed an Alcantara steering wheel, a “Powered by Ford” valve cover, aluminum pedals, sticky tires, a honeycomb grille, and a big round exhaust tip. We’ve no doubt Ford intends to unveil a performance-oriented car, and given automakers’ propensity to make big plans for major international auto shows, it’ll probably be a special one.

We couldn’t be more excited here at Sanderson Ford!

The Ford ICON50 Campaign Captures the Spirit of Adventure

A 50th birthday is a momentous occasion, marking half a century of accomplishments. You’re probably wondering, so whose birthday is it? It’s the iconic Mustang’s! That’s why the Ford ICON50 Campaign is being launched, in order to celebrate the 50 years of influence the Mustang has had.

Here at Sanderson Ford we recognize the prominence of the Mustang, especially because it has inspired whole generations of cars which followed its unveiling in 1964. Ford can change that.

“For five decades, Mustang has represented some of the best of American popular culture, inspiring a feeling of freedom, independence and adventure,” said Jim Farley, Ford executive VP of Marketing, Sales and Service. “We are excited to celebrate the iconic Mustang and encourage fans to embrace its spirit of adventure and try new cultural experiences.”

The 2015 Ford Mustang Will Feature a Knee Airbag

knee airbag

Of all the things the 2015 Ford Mustang will do, safety is the top priority for Ford’s newest model of America’s favorite muscle car.  We’ve heard many tidbits leaked about what the new Mustang will do, including unbelievable handling and a great design, but the most recent news has us really excited for the future of this car.  An innovative new glovebox airbag will prevent passengers from knee injuries in a crash.

All of the 2015 Ford Mustang’s will have the active knee airbag as a standard feature, plus, it will be the first vehicle among Ford’s incredible lineup that will receive the knee airbag system.  This knee airbag system is 65% lighter than a traditional airbag and uses up to a 75% smaller inflator.  The airbag is virtually undetectable when you look at the glovebox door.

We are not sure if the knee airbag will show up in other Ford vehicles, but at Sanderson Ford, we think it’s a great idea, so why not?  And if you want to take a look at the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang, then visit our showroom today!

2015 Ford Mustang Convertible On Top of the World

2015 Ford Mustang convertible

As we posted in a previous blog, Ford intended to recreate the scene from the 1964 World’s Fair with the Mustang convertible atop the Empire State Building in New York City.  And 50 years later, just that has happened.  The 2015 Ford Mustang convertible now sits proudly on the observation deck of the Empire State Building, with a clear view of the Big Apple.

You would have never guessed that this strikingly yellow beauty had to actually be cut apart to be taken up the only freight elevator in the Empire State Building.  A company based in Michigan split the Mustang into parts that would fit on the elevator.  They built a mockup of the elevator, and then proceeded to make cuts on another pre-production Mustang convertible.

From the videos below, you can see how precise everything had to be to ensure this historical repeat.  At Sanderson Ford, we are also able to tell that their efforts weren’t wasted!  The 2015 Ford Mustang convertible looks beautiful overlooking Manhattan!

2015 Ford Mustang Convertible to Recreate a Scene from 1964

We have seen some great things out of the Ford Mustang over the years, but one of the most iconic moments will always be when the 1965 Ford Mustang convertible prototype sat atop the Empire State Building during the 1964 World’s Fair in New York.

Ford announced that they will be doing the very same thing for the 50th anniversary of the classic muscle car.  Mark Fields, the Ford chief operating officer stated “New York is one of the greatest cities in the world, and it’s the place where the Ford Mustang story began 50 years ago.  We’re thrilled to be visiting the architectural landmark that has been the heart of the Manhattan skyline for 83 years with the newest generation of the car that is the soul of Ford Motor Company.”

The only way to get the 2015 Ford Mustang convertible up to the top of the Empire State Building is the same way they did it in 1964: by physically slicing the car into pieces and taking it up the elevator.  Ford engineers have figured out exactly where to make the cuts and once they get it to the top of 86th-floor observatory, they will only have 6 hours to put it back together.

“It is a privilege to celebrate the new Ford Mustang, to bring together our two iconic brands, and to make new history with Ford.  The Empire State Building and Ford Mustang are both historic innovators – today, as in the past,” said Empire State Realty Trust Chairman, President and CEO Anthony E. Malkin.

At Sanderson Ford, we can’t wait to see the 2015 Ford Mustang convertible atop one of the most well-known buildings in NYC.  If you are interested in visiting the Mustang convertible, it will be available for viewing from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. April 16-17.

The Ford Mustang Helps the Pinball Machine Get on the Comeback Trail

2014 Ford MustangEven though these classic arcade games are just that, classics, the pinball machine might be on its way back anyway.  Contrary to popular belief, pinball machines are still being made today, but are mostly being sold to individual buyers and different arcade distributors.  Chicago-based Stern Pinball has teamed up with Ford to create a pinball machine featuring the 50th anniversary Ford Mustang.

This pinball machine will come with all kinds of bells and whistles, as well as three different variations of the machine to choose from.  The pro-level pinball machine, which is meant for arcades and the like, will be selling for $5,000.  Depending on where you shoot the ball, you could be drag racing, racing the Mustang, and so much more.

The upgraded version will be made especially for pinball machine collectors and the third variation will be an autographed special addition.  Prices for these options have yet to be announced, but we know they will be worth it.

At Sanderson Ford, we are definitely ready to take this wild ride.  Whether you are a pinball machine enthusiast or not, you have to admit, a pinball machine featuring the 50th anniversary Ford Mustang is pretty ingenious!

Ford Auctions off 2012 Blue Angels Mustang GT for EAA Young Eagles

The Blue Angels, the Navy’s aircraft aerobatics team, flying around in their F/A-18 Hornets have wowed spectators for years with their dazzling moves. Now, the 2012 Blue Angels Ford Mustang GT will wow viewers with its customized appearance and increased performance package. This unique car was produced by Ford for the EAA AirVentures Young Eagles, and will be auctioned off today.

The Young Eagles goal is to promote and foster the love of aviation to the youth of America. Ford has worked with the Young Eagles since 2006 by producing special edition Mustangs to be auctioned off. In total, these cars have generated $1.3 million for the Young Eagles.  In addition to the auction, the Blue Angels car pays tribute to 100 years of naval aviation and will be shown at the weeklong AirVenture program in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The Mustang itself is beautifully crafted with a deep blue paint to represent the Blue Angels.  In addition, the Mustang comes with “screaming yellow” gloss accents, a unique rear spoiler, and Blue Angels script and crest that make the car look like its namesake fighter plane.

The exterior is not the only thing that that’s been modeled after the legendary aircrafts.  The Mustang GT features Recaro racing seats that are designed to look like pilot flight suits and posses the Blue Angels Crest. The Blue Angels Mustang GT also features unique cluster graphics, performance gauges, navigation screen images, safety belt fabric, instrument panel appliqués, rear seat-delete and cross brace, Blue Angel script in illuminated sill plates, and puddle lamps that project jet images when the doors open.

The Mustang also takes after its namesake when it comes to power. This GT has a 5.0L supercharged V-8 that produces 624hp. The car also has a Ford Racing handling pack (provides a one inch drop), performance exhaust, and track-rated brakes. This gives the car elite performance and speed to go along with its distinctive look.

With past models donated to the EAA Young Eagles including the F-22 Raptor Mustang AV8R, the AV-X10 Dearborn Doll Mustang, and the SR-71 Blackbird Mustang, the Blue Angels Mustang GT joins elite and distinguished company. The Blue Angels Mustang holds its own though due to its sporty look and performance that rival that of its namesake.
